What not to bring

Weekend Campouts [Return to Top of Page]

The following lists are taken from the Boy Scout Handbook, and the Camping merit badge book.  The first each Scout should have.  The second can be purchased, or borrowed from the troop library.

You may bring other gear as well, but remember you must carry your own equipment.  Bring only what you need.

If you are new to camping, don’t feel that you need to rush out and spend a lot of money on the best equipment available.  Talk to experienced Scouts, and look at garage sales and thrift stores.  You need not even have a pack, though you will find it much easier to carry gear than a duffel bag.

Do not bring gear in a garbage bag, suitcase, or other container not suited to camping.  These will not be loaded for transport and you may not be allowed to go on the campout.
